Our Treatment

Here is a link to our treatment: https://prezi.com/view/qdaClm7xVJ3qfIlXZIe9/

We have decided to use the song ‘What Now’ by Rihanna for our a2 music video. We have looked at many other music videos including: Countdown, Halo and That’s What I Like and really liked many aspects of the cinematography and editing which we would like to incorporate into our own music and we thought that ‘What Now’ would be the ideal song for this. As we previously said we took our inspiration from many different music videos as we liked the editing techniques and cinematography they used. For example, in Countdown we loved the frequent change of colour throughout the video and the original editing techniques as shown by the clips. We also took some inspiration from Beyoncé’s music video – Halo. We loved the lighting, close ups and dancing used in the video. This video in particular is more narrative than the others which we particularly enjoyed as it told a story and the dancing was very relevant to the emotions portrayed through the story line. We were particularly inspired by the water scene because not only because it is different but it would allow us to use a range of techniques. Ashwell as Countdown and Halo, we took inspiration from the ‘What Now’ music video. We particularly liked the scenes where the images are overlapping as it is different to other music videos we have watched. We also watched Bruno Mars – ‘That’s What I Like’ for inspiration. This music video was different to the previous ones we have watched as the video revolved around dancing and animation, which is different to anything we have watched before. When researching music videos, we came across ‘Four, Five, Seconds’. We particularly liked this music video and have chosen it for our preliminary task. The video itself is very simple using mostly close up shots and black and white colour grading. However, we thought this was extremely effective and would therefore like to recreate aspects of it. We have decided that although our music video will not be explicit, we have decided to age our music video between the ages of 14-26 as we do not think it will appeal to children or an older demographic due to the choice of the song. As this is stereotypically a female song we have decided that the music video will appeal to women more than men as it has an emotional storyline and is perhaps more relatable to women as it has a romantic element. We would most likely aim our music video to people earning over the average wage as it would appeal to a larger group of people. We will aim are music video particularly at aspirers and young people. We think that our music video will mostly attract students who enjoy listening to music regularly and enjoy going out with their friends. Our ideal target audience will enjoy shopping at high street shops and restaurants and we will use social media to attract them to our music video as it is what the younger generation is using to communicate. In our music video, we would only have a protagonist who would be doing both the lip-syncing and dancing. We will be only using one key character because we feel like it would be more emotive and we didn’t want our music video to be a narrative. Whilst planning our music video we have considered many practical considerations. We have thought we would like to film in a studio with mirrors, so we are going to look into yoga studios that would accommodate us, although a slight issue may be that you may be able to see our reflection in the mirrors while filming and due to the opening hours of the studio – restricted filming time and costs. Another practical issue is the weather and temperature, as a possible filming location is Libbys pool, we need to take into consideration the time of year and the weather as we do not want our protagonist getting too cold – risky! Another location which we are considering is the green screen at school, this would be good as we can put any background we want onto our music video, the only issue with this is the restricted filming hours. We will be taking each and every location into consideration and weighing up which is the best one.
