Award Winning Music Videos
1999 was the first year that MTV (Music Television) started a music video award, this award was given to one person out of 4/5 nominees in each music video genre (pop, hip-hop, metal, r&b). As I am creating a pop music video, I decided to research award-winning music videos for this genre.
1999 - Livin La Vida Loca
This is a very upbeat music video with the main focus being the club-like atmosphere, women and the singer himself. During the verse it begins quite calm in comparison to the rest of the video but as the verse edges towards the chorus it becomes more upbeat, energetic and exciting. The chorus of the music video is clearly the main focus as it is made to look very fun and energetic and makes the singer look like he is a very outgoing person. The star of the music video is showcased as in the constant limelight and loves to have fun as he has women dancing all around him and people playing instruments in the background. The visuals of this music video clearly relate to the lyrics because the lyrics of the song are suggesting living life to the fullest and having fun and fun is what this music video is all about with its fast paced editing and movement.
2005 - Since You've Been Gone
This video won the 2005 music video awards. As you can tell from the video it has a vintage effect overlayed on the top of the video and follows the star as the video tells a story. The star (Kelly Clarkson) is the main focus of this music video as it transfers from a storyline to her performing back to a storyline. The verse of this video is very calm and mellow as the story is being told but as you reach the chorus it becomes almost 'rocky' as there is guitars and drums and the star is shouting as she sings. The visuals of this music video completely relate to the lyrics, as the music video continues you can see the anger anf fuustration coming out of the stars body language which realte to the lyrics written. The star in this music video is showcased as angery and upset although she has now been 'freed' from the relationship which caused her stress.
